Virgil A.
“Captain” Williams
May 5, 1943 — Dec 14, 2025
Tallahassee
Virgil Allen Williams, 82, of Monticello, FL. peacefully went home to be with the Lord Sunday, December 14th at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Virgil is the son of the late Vernon Williams and the late Vater Grant. He was born March 30, 1943, in Pierson, FL.
He was educated in the Putnam County School System and graduated from Milton Burney High School [class of 1962]. Virgil was a star football athlete with an entrepreneurial spirit. When his father passed away, herose to the challenge and successfully operatedDreamland Café (also known as Vernon's), which was located in Long Station, [just South of Crescent City].As the owner and operator, Virgil administeredbusiness transactions with vendors and entertainers alike. He was a great grill master and prepared finger-licking barbecue ribs, chicken, and fried fish that sold out every weekend (starting on Friday nights). It was a popular spot for locals and patrons who traveled throughout North Central Florida to experience the nightlife entertainment at the popular establishment. Additionally, Virgil was a jack of all trades and could fix almost anything. Virgil served as a maintenance technician with Rockbrook Garden Apartments in Tallahassee, FL. for more than 20 years. The serial entrepreneur enjoyed watching college and NFL football, fishing, attending bowling tournaments, and spending one-on-one time (through surprise visits) with loved ones. As years passed, he enjoyed dining atSonny's Barbeque, especially the one in Tallahassee. Virgil was a man of laughter, introspection, meditation, prayer, and faith. In despair he called upon the name of the Lord and the Mastered answered his call.
He leaves behind a devoted companion and caretakerof 17 years, Barbar Lamar, of Monticello, FL., and her son Darren Lamar (his bowling buddy)
