Mary Helen Claxton White, 81 of Melbourne, Florida, unexpectedly transitioned to heavenly realms on July 23, 2025. Born on June 16, 1944, in Alabama,
Mary lived a life filled with faith, resilience, and positivity, always seeing the glass as half full than half empty. Mary was a devoted wife of the late Reverend Dr. George H. White for 61 years. She was a caring, nurturing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.
She was predeceased by her parents, Dudley Claxton and Annie Mae Claxton Marshall; stepfather, Punt Marshall; and Cousin George Hartley (raised alongside her as a brother)
She is survived by her brother Charles Claxton; 1st cousin, Rena Hartley (raised alongside her as a sister) and special god-sister Mattie Freeney. George and Mary leave behind 5 children: Sophia White, George D. (Paula) White, Coretta H. Battle, Lucretia A. (Dominik) Warren, and LaKeba White. In addition to 16 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Also, her beloved godchildren: Walter Monroe III, Riva Bailey Green and Alia Buggs Hamilton. As well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
In Mary's early years she graduated from Ralph Brunche High School with honors, studying at Stillman College and University of Hartford. Received her bachelor's and master's degree from North Carolina College of Theology. She worked and retired at the U.S Postal Service and became co-owner of GeoMar U. S Post office in Melbourne, Florida with her husband, George. They were the first Black African American to own a U.S Postal Service Office in Florida.
Mary enjoyed life, especially the small things in life. She loved gardening, Ebay selling, collecting antiques, reading, talking with friends and family. Most importantly, Mary loved playing Dominoes with her husband during the late evening hours. Indeed, you will hear her laughing at her husband's jokes or debating with husband about religious or political views.
As a devout Christian who had a solid relationship with GOD, Mary stood firm on faith in GOD. One of her memorable quotes is "Don't worry, it will work itself out, pray, have faith in GOD because trouble don't last always
