Betty Boyd-
Evans
Oct 11, 1946 — Apr 13, 2024
Titusville
Gunga
On April 13th, 2024, thirty days to two years since her beloved husband's heavenly departure, bells rang and angels sang when the gates of heaven opened for Betty Gene Boyd-Evans, in celebration of a matrimonial reunion with Dan Evans Sr. Born the 9th child of 1 children in Palatka, Florida in the Autumn of October 11th, 1946,
it was said Betty Boyd with a mic in one hand and a baton in the other. From girlhood she sang for choir at Greater Shilo Baptist Church in Palatka Florida, twirled baton for Florida's first accredited Black High School, the Central Academy of Palatka, where she graduated in 1964 head majorette. Famous by name in her own right for her powerhouse vocals,
lead alto for the Shilo Baptist Choir, she traveled the state with the football team and band. It was said everybody rushed to field to see Betty Boyd and the Central Academy majorettes. With all her grace and talent she'd drawn the affections of a young footballer and scholar from Bethune Cookman, was wed and a mother by 1965; wife to NASA mathematician and student professor. Now Betty Evans, settled into life in
Titusville, Florida where she devoted herself to motherhood, community, and her talents to the Life Church of Titusville and the gracious host of her home going. Her vocal
prowess would open doors for Betty all around the world and take her to places from missions to South Africa and beyond, and touch many hearts. For many years she was our small towns source for Salvation and Praise, WPIO Titusville, every morning, from 5am to 10am, she was "FM on your dial." And sometimes, on your way to work, or as you got the kids ready in the morning, you could look forward to the pleasant surprise of your name called out on the radio. An to those remembered: her mother Lou Ethel Boyd Adams; her brothers: James Adams, Frank Adams, Alfred Adams, John
Henry Boyd, Lonnie Boyd and Rodger Williams; a grandson, Michael Howard; and her beloved husband of 55 years, Daniel Evans Sr.
And a reminder to those that remember: her children: Daniel Evans Jr, Chandra Dionne Frye, and Loquita Allaire (Kevan Allaire); her sisters: Elise Smith, Rosalie Howard, Willie Lee Collins, Lucretia Boyd Hutcherson, and Nadine Boyd; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; to cherish the short, and often too fleeting time we have together, to nourish the bonds of our family. We must learn, and relearn again, how to love what is sacred; how to forgive and give unconditional grace to what is sacred; and that there is no foibles, no flaws, no mistakes made our pasts, when we look our hearts for the memories of Betty Boyd Evans, we hear her words: "God is prayer answering God."
